With all the buzz lately about ChatGPT and the like I find myself wanting to go back to basics. I want to read physical books and learn from actual textbooks. I went to Abebooks and bought a bunch of cheap old text books. I want to refresh my old skills the old way even though it’s faster and more efficient to let ChatGPT to do it for me.
I used to love learning and the smell of new text books. More often than not in the last few years I have been relying on hacks and shortcuts. My brain has dulled. ChatGPT will likely increase my brain rust if I rely on it too much. As they say “use it or lose it”.
The same with this blog. I know it’s considered “old school” and that it is unlikely that many people will ever see it but it helps me work out my thoughts in a unique way. What comes from tools like ChatGPT is derivative and from the cultural sphere. I want to explore my thoughts and exercise my own brain. Maybe as our jobs get taken over by AI and we use it more and more often we will need Brain Gyms to help with exercising our brains.
I might just develop my own brain gym methods and share them here. I know that for me, setting challenges for myself, being creative and tackling complex problems are things that give me deep satisfaction and joy
